Using Google Apps

Google has many different apps that students at the elementary can use. Students with writing difficulties have benefitted from using Google Docs with voice typing options. This has allowed students to express their ideas even if they have difficulty with spelling or the physical aspect of writing. Google Forms can be used to create a variety of assessments, such as spelling tests.

Pictured below is a student taking a modified spelling test created on Google Forms. His spelling test was able to be modified with multiple choice questions where he would choose the correct spelling, or short answer questions where he was given the letters of a spelling word that were mixed up and he had to spell it correctly. Taking spelling tests in this format helped him to stay engaged since it involved using technology, allowed him to be exposed to grade level spelling concepts, and took away the physical barrier of writing.
