From Goat to Rug

Second graders in Mrs. Valentine’s class recently read a narrative nonfiction story about a Navajo weaver- The Goat in the Rug.  As Geraldine, the goat, shared the process of weaving from her point of view, the children learned the many steps it takes to make a rug (from wool to yarn, cleaning and dying, spinning and weaving).  As a culminating activity, the children used little looms to weave their own mini rugs from yarn.  They had lots of fun creating these pieces of art!
