Miss Williams's third grade class spent a day engaging in a productive struggle. The students were given an index card and scissors and asked how they could fit their head through an index card. The purpose was for students to work through frustrations, problem solve, and engage in discussion with peers about this "impossible" task. After a great deal of time and thinking, slowly a few students figured out how to fit their head through an index card, which resulted in them providing suggestions to peers. This was a great time, and they realized this class is full of hard working and supportive classmates! See the proof that it is possible to fit your head through an index card!
